The Province of England has recently approved the local directory of its Dominican fraternity for the secular clergy. This was a product of serious reflection by the members in collaboration with the friars of the Province. Accordingly, it contains matters pertinent to the life and progress of the fraternity that are not particularly determined in the Rule, and has obtained the approval of the Prior Provincial, Brother Martin Ganeri, OP, and his Council. Furthermore, the directory is to be read in association with the Regula Fraternitatum Sacerdotalium Sancti Dominici, which was approved by the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life in December 1996, along with the General Declarations on the Rule issued by the Master of the Order in March 2019.
Formally constituted on 9 April 2013, the fraternity is under the patronage of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary and currently has twelve members. Some of them were formerly Anglican married clergymen, including its first elected prior, Fr. John Joseph Saward, who together with then Provincial Promoter, Brother Simon Francis Gaine, OP, participated in the 2016 international assembly of representatives of the Dominican Priestly Fraternities in Rome. Today the fraternity continues to offer diocesan priests who strive to be imbued with the spirit of St. Dominic a way to join the Order of Preachers as a part of the Dominican Family.
